savvy storage solutions for LEGO lovers / part 2 "built sets"

Continuing on from my last LEGO post, let's move on to those brick masterpieces—where do your LEGO sets live once they're built?

Like most storage challenges, the solution comes from understanding: (a) WHO is involved and (b) the SPACE you’re working with. Here are prompts to get you going:

  • What happens after a LEGO set is built? Does your child leave it for display? Or does it become part of their play? My girls build to play, so their sets stay within reach. If your builder likes to savor their efforts, next consider…

  • Where do they typically build their LEGO? Could built sets be stored here or preferably in another room? What horizontal surfaces are available in either space?

  • How much time/effort/money do you want to invest in a solution? Could you repurpose furniture? Are you up for a simple DIY?

Working with what’s available around your home is a resourceful solution without investing too much. Now with more insight into you, your child, and your space, here are 2 ways you can craft a designated zone for those built LEGO sets:

1. REPURPOSE

(ideal for kids who build to PLAY)

If you have an old piece of furniture you don’t need or are looking to replace, consider repurposing it to store your child’s built creations. When we were ready to revamp our family room, our dated TV stand became the LEGO display/storage unit. It kept their sets off the floor yet accessible for play. Read about our DIY transformation here!

2. DIY SHELF

(ideal for kids who build to DISPLAY)

Inexpensive with room to grow and change as needed. These ↓ practically ready-made 36”W x 11.5”D “shelves” are quick to wall-mount over heavy-duty nickel brackets. Add a clear varnish to protect the wood or paint it to match the surrounding walls. Best part: The bullnose edge gives it a detailed finish, making you look like a pro!

are you or your spouse into LEGO?

My husband happily puts LEGO sets on our girls’ wish lists because he 💯 loves to build, too! If you're a LEGO lover, let me know what your favourite set or theme is in the Comments!
